Reclink State Manager, Sarah Kitis, turned to golf as a stimulating recreational activity that allowed her participants to enjoy the outdoors whilst maintaining social distancing.
After being approached by Sarah to see if we would like to be involved, Collier Park now has regular weekly visits from several Reclink participants and their community support workers.
One such participant, Andrea Ciccerelli, visits Collier Park Golf every Wednesday morning with his support worker, Vinod Bandara. He hires equipment from the Golf Shop and spends the next hour hitting golf balls down the driving range. Having tried several different activities through the Reclink network, Andrea loves his new golfing endeavour.
He now looks forward to his weekly golf session, which he adds to his other activities that include swimming and a weekly performing arts workshop delivered by service provider Workpower Incorporated – Community Programs.
Workpower Incorporated – Community Program Support Worker, Vinod, says that the fitness and social aspects and the routine that activities such as golf are crucial for building independence, community inclusion, developing motor skills and to help maintain the mental and physical wellbeing of clients such as Andrea. “It’s a beautiful setting and we love coming here each week.”
